2022 Sales to benefit the
Andrea R. McFall Scholarship Fund
Earth has no sorrows that Heaven cannot heal.
Proceeds from this annual sale have helped our family establish an annual scholarship in Andrea’s name to be presented to a graduating senior at our community’s high school. A student from Hamburg High School who is preparing to enter into the field of education will receive much needed funds to start their college career. As many of you know, Andrea was an exemplary teacher who always held her students in her heart. We would like to help others who are dedicating their lives to educating our young children.
Why Marigolds?
There are two main reasons for choosing to sell marigolds as our fundraiser activity.
First of all, February 23, 2017 was our family’s worst day ever. But for another family it was one of their BEST days ever as they welcomed the birth of their baby Marigold. A friend told this story to me two days after Andrea’s passing and Marigold’s birth and it immediately shined a light in my heart. My thoughts turned from my deep sadness to that family’s joy. It helped me get through those terrible days. That spring I planted Marigolds in our front yard as a constant reminder of the amazing woman I loved and that JOY is still present in the world.
Secondly, gardeners and farmers plant marigolds as a companion plant to their young plants. The marigold’s unique ability to protect these tender young plants as they grow and mature is exactly how Andrea protected her tender young students to help them grow and mature. She surrounded her students with love and compassion and believed in their unique abilities. A friend forwarded an article aimed at first year teachers encouraging them to “find their marigold”. This article could have been written about her! We all need a marigold around us! We also need to BE A MARIGOLD for others. Our family hopes we can “Be a Marigold” for others in this small way.
